As an educator, parent, and engaged citizen, I find it ever important that we help young people develop scientific mindsets, think critically, and learn to make sound decisions based on credible evidence. Students should be encouraged to apply their talents and creativity to the problems facing our world. For us to encourage anything less is to ignore the potential of a generation and further jeopardize the planet.

Beyond classroom teaching, I write for publication about education and fly fishing/wildlife/conservation. As a Teacher Consultant with the National Writing Project, I work with educators in a variety of professional development settings, mainly around the topics of science/inquiry/literacy.

My contributions to education have been recognized by the National Science Teachers Association (2017 NSTA Distinguished Teaching Award), the Office of the President of the United States (2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching), and my peers (2013 Teacher of the Year, Heritage Middle School).

I am also an avid trail runner, cyclist, and nordic skier.
